Abstract:
A large database of quaternary ammonium salt-type compounds with subsequent antimicrobial evaluation has been established under past or ongoing scientific projects. This screening resulted in the discovery of several very promising compounds with strong antimicrobial potential for bacteria (Gram-positive, Gram-negative), fungi (yeast) and coated with viruses (SARS-CoV-2, cytomegalovirus, etc.). Selcted structures were already significantly effective at very low concentrations (e.g. virucidal effect against a new type of coronavirus at 0.005% concentration). The most effective compounds have been or are currently the subject of patent proceedings. The aim of the project is to confirm their effectiveness according to the valid legislation and then to suggest any appropriate application form. As a result, we expect a functional sample(s) (e.g. disinfectant solution) and verify its effectiveness with a certified method. The disinfection efficacy will be compared to the commercially used standards (benzalkonium chloride, didecydimethylammonium chloride and chlorhexidine digluconate).
