The Transfusion Center serves for taking blood and blood components from donors (taking “full” blood, apheresis), processing the taken blood and examining and supplying the blood products to the patients of the hospital. The center also supplies the transfusion products to blood banks of the hospitals within the region. The center stores and supplies blood derivatives produced from donors´ plasma to the patients of the University Hospital Hradec Králové, and takes and processes blood for the purpose of autotransfusions to patients before planned operations. It also carries out laboratory examinations (testing of blood groups and subgroups and antibodies of white and red blood cells and platelets; testing of compatibility; examination for the register of bone marrow donors; transplant immunology PCR; etc.), and performs treatment (curative erythrocytapheresis, curative venipuncture).
The center participates in the undergraduate teaching of students (the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy, Secondary Medical School and Higher Secondary Medical School in Hradec Králové) and also participates in graduate training of doctors, and other non-medical graduates and medical workers in the field of transfusiology. The Transfusion Center carries the ISO 9001 and 15189 quality certificate.
