Since 2014, this separate workplace of the University Hospital Hradec Králové has been providing dialysis treatment as well as comprehensive care for the whole field of nephrology, i.e. the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of all kidney diseases.
Primary activities include outpatient diagnostics and treatment (nephrology clinic), care for nephrology patients at standard and ICU wards of University Hospital Hradec Králové (especially at the 3rd Internal Clinic), the complete range of dialytic treatment (peritoneal dialysis, all modifications of hemodialysis - chronic and acute hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, hemofiltration). A comprehensive transplant program is offered in cooperation with the Transplantation Center.
Nursing and medical care for dialysis is highly professional and the center is equipped with a number of modern components of dialysis equipment. The staff applies a caring, human approach and offers support to patients. The department provides dialytic tailored treatment as well as offering knowledge and expertise in all areas of clinical nephrology, from common diseases to complicated and rare diseases. The department performs renal biopsies for most of the Hradec Králové Region.
The number of extracorporeal elimination surgeries per year exceeds 18,000 and an increase can be expected in the future.
The department is involved in the teaching of students at the Faculty of Medicine, both in the master‘s and bachelor‘s degree programs. Departmental research focuses on bone and mineral metabolism and on other specifics in dialysis and transplantation nephrology.
