The ENT Department deals with the diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of all conditions and defects within otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery. The department deals mainly with functional endoscopic surgery of paranasal cavities and middle ear surgery, including cochlear implants. Another important area with a significant number of patients is the thyroid and parathyroid gland surgery, issues surrounding voice surgery (phonosurgery), and diagnosing and treating swallowing disorders. The ENT Department also provides complex diagnostics of hearing and balance disorders. In cooperation with neonatologists, we carry out area-wide screening of hearing in new born babies, and our pilot studies have worked on screening hearing in preschool children. The department also offers complex oncosurgical treatment within the region and in addition cooperates with the Department of Neurosurgery on operations involving the base of the skull.
Specialized consultation is available for hearing impairment, distribution of hearing aids, speech defects (logopedics), disorders of nasal passability, allergies concerning ENT, and breathing disorders during sleeping (snoring) in conjunction with the Center for Sleeping Disorders and Biorhythm. The department has also attained excellent long-term results within nursing care.
The most important meetings organized by our department include: preparatory ENT courses – surgery of the ear and temporal bone, nose and side nasal cavities; a course on operational suturing; annual interdisciplinary symposia; and regional specialized seminars held four times a year.
