The department is one of the few orthopedic departments in the CR to have a separate septic ward and a ward of pediatric orthopedics. This ensures a whole complex of orthopedic care within the entire scope of the field – starting with artificial joints (including complicated revision operations), arthroscopies (including reconstructing operations), general orthopedics, pediatric orthopedics, septic orthopedics, rheumatoid diseases related surgery, surgery of hand and leg, oncologic orthopedics, and the treatment of post-traumatic states. The department also participates in treating injuries of the locomotor system at the Trauma Center. Besides this broad range of work, the department ensures specialized and subspecialized supra-regional care namely in the case of complicated reconstructive interventions of the locomotor system or pediatric and septic orthopedics.
Preclinical and clinical research is oriented towards bone tissue substitution and problems connected to septic orthopedics. This research, including other grants, is carried out in close cooperation with the academic departments at the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové and other workplaces in the CR. Thanks to the potential which the cooperation with other workplaces the University Hospital Hradec Králové offers, the care for oncological and hemato-oncological patients, diabetics with locomotor system complications, rheumatic patients, and patients after organ transplants has seen noticeable development. All the above-mentioned aspects provide a solid foundation for the department’s involvement in presentations and publications, not only within the CR but also abroad.
