The department specializes in cataract surgery, vitreoretinal and refractional surgeries. The most up-to-date operational procedures are implemented and a wide spectrum of intra-eye implants used. The department also deals with treating children and has a special consultation office for glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, oncology, uveitis, patients with severely impaired vision, and for sufferers of dry eye. The Macula Center provides complex care for patients with disorders of the central part of the retina. Doctors from our department have been the main researchers in several grants (IGA of the Ministry of Health of the CR, GAUK) and many international multicenter clinical studies. The results of our work can be found in both domestic as well as foreign journals.
The PhD study program in the field of ophthalmology enrolls graduate students from the whole CR. More than 50 students have attained a doctorate degree by successfully defending a PhD thesis. The department regularly organizes board examinations in ophthalmology. Annually, we organize the professional congress Furum Ophthalmologicum.
The team of workers from the department participates twice a year in surgical missions in the MEDEVAC program in Amman, Jordan.
