The department is ranked among the most complex oncological care centers for the entire region as well as specialized supraregional oncological care, including biological treatment and state-of-the-art radiotherapeutic technologies. Current equipment such as linear accelerators, MR and 4D CT enable radiotherapy with modelled intensity, image guided radiotherapy, radiotherapy synchronized with the breathing cycle, and stereotactic radiation. Brachytherapy of the prostate, three-dimensional brachytherapy of the cervix, and accelerated partial breast radiotherapy are also performed.
A new day center for applying systemic treatment has expanded the capacity of the department and the comfort of patients. A program for palliative treatment at the level of the University Hospital Hradec Králové and the whole region has been developing.
The department teaches students in both the undergraduate program as well as the PhD study program in the field of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy, and provides specialized instruction and teaching for radiology assistants and students in the bachelor’s degree program. Conference activities include the Society for Radiology, Biology and Physics of CMA JEP (Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyně) and the department is a member of EORTC and an institutional member of ESTRO. A total of 75 articles with impact factor have been published during the last 5 years.
