The inpatient ward of the department provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care for patients with immune system disorders, especially allergic diseases and immune deficiency conditions. A functional diagnostics unit provides examinations of pulmonary ventilation values, bronchoprovocation tests, rhinomanometry, and measurements of nasal, bronchial and alveolar nitric oxide. These examinations are performed for other indications as well.
The daily care center provides patients suffering from normal variable immunodeficiency with immunoglobulin substitution treatment. There is a center for the treatment of hereditary angioedema and a center for biological treatment of severe asthma. A comprehensive scheme for the clinical and laboratory diagnostics of infertility as a result of pathology of the immune system has been established. In indicated cases, medical care is also provided.
The clinical laboratory of the department provides specialized laboratory examinations in clinical immunology. The department is the holder of the NASKL II audit (National Authorization Center for Clinical Laboratories) and focuses on the development of laboratory diagnostics of immunopathological diseases, the detection of specific cellular response induced by infectious agents, and the determination of parameters by cell-mediated immunity. The complex diagnosis of blood malignancies involves determining membrane and intracellular features with the aid of multicolored flow cytometry. The department also provides the teaching of immunology and clinical immunology for students of the Charles University Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Hradec Králové. The department is accredited for the doctoral study program in medical immunology. It is accredited for habilitation and professorship appointment procedures in medical immunology.
