The workplace consists of two cooperating departments – Central Operating Theatres and Central Sterilization.
The Central Operating Theatres include nine operating theaters in three-shift operation providing emergency and planned operations. They are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, modern surgical and audiovisual techniques for all open and mini-invasive surgical procedures in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, traumatology and urology. Since 2016, robotic operations have been used as well. Annually, nearly six thousand operations are performed in the Central Operating Theaters. In cooperation with other departments, the workplace participates in the undergraduate education of students at healthcare schools at the Faculty of Military Health Sciences, and at the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové. Graduate education for doctors and paramedics is also part of the department’s teaching activities.
All workplaces are well-equipped and comply with legal requirements and hygienic standards. Pre-sterilization preparation of instruments and aids is carried out in chemical and disinfecting machines. Six steam sterilizers and formaldehyde and plasma sterilization are available. The workplace is equipped with a modern transport and container system.
