Currently professor of toxicology at the University of South Bohemia in Budweis, professor emeritus of the University of Defence, Brno. He works in the field of molecular biochemistry, enzymology and toxicology of extremely poisonous synthetically prepared and natural substances and drugs. He is the author or co-author of 18 scientific monographs and textbooks, such as Military Toxicology (2004), Nutritional toxicology (2008) and others. He has published in international journals and more than 200 scientific papers and many science popularization articles. His lectures includes more than 250 titles. He is a member of several domestic and international scientific societies and editorial boards of three scientific journals.

He works in the field of molecular biochemistry, enzymology and toxicology extremely poisonous synthetically prepared and natural substances and drugs. It deals with the development of new treatments for nerve agent poisoning and drugs for Alzheimer's disease. Beyond the research activity is devoted to the management of students, teaching and science popularization.

He has published more than 540 scientific papers and presented more than 200 lectures and posters on scientific meetings. Author and co-author of 18 books and/or textbooks, e.g. Military Toxicology (Grada, Prague 2004) or chapters in monograph, e.g. Handbook of the Toxicology of Chemical Warfare Agents (Academic Press/Elsevier 2009). More than 3000 citations to SCI and more than 4585 to Google Scholar Citations, Hirsch-index = 32, i10 index = 91. Co-Editor of the Journal of Applied Biomedicine, the member of Editorial board of Military Medical Science Letters, Pharmaceutical Design and Current Perspectives, and Kontakt. His scientific work focuses on the biochemical mechanisms of toxic action of different biologically active compounds, mainly on inhibition of cholinesterases, include their application as Alzheimer's disease drugs and on the function of centrally active anticholinesterases and different peptides in teaching and memory processes. He follow to popularization of science and published hundreds of articles in specialized journals and newspapers – Vesmír, Živa, Zdravotnické noviny, MF Dnes, Lidové noviny and other. He is engaged Internet server TOXICOLOGY (http://www.toxicology,cz) much-frequented by students and persons concerned in toxicology.
